We likes it, my precious...

So, a couple of days ago, I decided that I was desperately needing something fun to do, and that it was time to break out the guest pass for David's World of Warcraft copy.

Oh, what folly have I wrought?

Anyway, we tried to install it, only to discover that the nearly 4 gig I'd managed to free up was not enough to download and install all the patches, and there was no more to be had. It was impossible, and that fact made me weep bitter tears, as I hate sharing a computer. The next day (yesterday evening), however, David had a wonderful, awful idea, and I was worn out enough from meetings with school and worry (see previous post) that I let him do it. Given that our computers are very similar, he copied all the WoW stuff over from his system onto mine, overwriting my copy with his patched, tweaked one. Amazingly enough, it worked!

Last night, I logged on and played. I couldn't get onto Argent Dawn, so I went for Feathermoon instead (Alisdair has a character there--he likes to fish). I made a dwarf hunter named Lyran, whom I could tweak to look remarkably close to my real live self. She's better endowed in the chest area, but our hips look amazingly similar. :) None of that willowy elf shit for me. *grin* I'll attempt to get a screenshot when next I play to post here. Can't let [livejournal.com profile] bruceb have all the fun.

Being a dwarf hunter is very cool. I have an axe and a cool backspin move. I have a musket and can shoot the shit out of stuff! Also, there's damn few female dwarves on this server that I saw. Dunno if that's typical (and if so it's a shame, 'cause they're actually sorta cute) but it's true. And they're Scottish!!! How cool is that! Scot-sounding crack-shot skull-splitting girls with curves. Damn me if I'm not hooked.

Sigh.

So, yeah. I played for a few hours last night, which predictably got me to bed at least an hour later than I'd meant for it to and I had no idea where the time went. The game has quickly been relegated to Weekend Play Only, Upon Pain of Death. I had a good time, though. Gained five levels. Died twice, the second time being when I walked off a big cliff and landed in front of the big bad guy I was supposed to kill, only he still had all his cronies with him. I ended up running around, fleeing from a mob of ice troll whelps with their leader at the helm, taking pot shots from them until I finally fell down and went boom. Much amusement.

I'm so hooked. Pity me. :)

Hey! Watch the fucking potty mouth there missy!!

;)

Screw that - in the new year, I'll be joining you. Online fantasy gaming crack, here I come!!

Between you and [livejournal.com profile] bruceb making me drool over WoW, and [livejournal.com profile] dourlittlebird encouraging me to play City of Heroes, I may find myself in deep trouble sometime in the next few months. I've been off PC gaming for over 7 years, and my computer is 5 years old anyway...so not only would I be dropping money on a gaming machine, I'd surely be an addict in no time...

Well, I can't do much more than recommend it. I typically hate MMORPGs, and I really like this. I can actually play it by myself and not be swamped with idiots. I'm actually even tentatively looking forward to playing with others, something I usually dislike. You don't HAVE to team up with people to get stuff done -- and have fun doing it! -- which is a huge thing for me. I was just struck by how much it felt like I was playing a really good single-player game, only there's this whole other dimension to it that I haven't even really touched on yet.

This is the first one I've considered other than City of Heroes, and certainly the first one I could run. I want to get City of Heroes sometime, but for now I'm certainly happy with what I have -- and willing to shell out for the monthly fee, which is always a huge thing for me.

Man, they should totally pay you and [livejournal.com profile] bruceb for these endorsements...you're quite convincing! I love the idea of running around with a Scottish musket-wielding Dwarf! Way back in the day, I veered between liking single-player and multiplayer, so it's cool that it supports both styles of play.

OMG, the "flirt" and "silly" clips are hysterical!

I'm glad the copy everything over suggestion worked. :)

It's a pity Bruce's guild is on another server - I'd love able to hook up with some of those I know have joined him - but with Order of the Iron Dragon nicely established on Silver Hand... (Not to mention David's level 35 Druid and my level 36 Hunter. :D)

If it was just a couple people I'd debate moving - but we're up to 20 people (50 characters) and we're still having people join us from my previous allegiance from AC. :D

Well, Silver Hand is tomorrow evening, after Alisdair's choir concert and some editingwork is done. I've gotten two characters outof the newbie area now and am ready to try for a third. That will probably just about do it for me, of course, but then I'll have one that I can play with Alisdair, one for Bruce and company, and one with you guys. :) This is sufficient.

I've never played an MMORPG before WoW and i'm pretty stoked. For the most part i've solo'd but there are times you need to group. I've met some pretty cool folks (who i've added to the old friends list).

Problem is we all started on opening night so we started on the first reccomended servers...which are now pretty packed. So my most uber character N-E Warrior 21) on Medihv, My Human Mage 11 and my Troll Rogue 11 on Lightbringer are pretty much destined to get deleted.

I've started new characters on low-latency servers (although honestly even Lightbringer and Medivh are still playable when busy...I just hate having so many folks around). The RP servers are pretty cool. Less stupid inane bullshit chat on the general chatlist and folks are generally nice. The signal/ noise ratio is better on the RP server.

I've been trying to get my wife on there and I may have accomplished this feat (hopefully she'll be on this weekend!)

Have fun!
