Can... not... concentrate....

So I'm at work and desperately trying to work, and yet still failing. I've just grabbed a coke in the vague hope of self-medication with caffiene so that I can get back to business, but thus far it's had no effect. I'm working on editing and creating a minis warband and surfing websites and checking email and...

Gah.

And none of it is getting done. And I need to go exercise in a bit. And I finished my character for the firefly game, and am horribly saddened to find that I can't find any minis of women in western-ish garb with weapons that don't either grab a sad victorian-style gown or else put the woman in some Shadowrun-style 80's miniskirt. I want Zoe and Sharon Stone from The Quick and the Dead. Hell, I'd practically settle for Jane from Johnny Mnemonic. I'm getting Ado Annie and early 80's action-movie Madonna and mustachioed men.

Bah.

Playing in, not writing or editing. I got invited to join a d20 Modern/Sidewinder Firefly game.

Cool. I hadn't assumed anything. d20 Modern would work well enough. I was looking at doing something similar with the Chaosium Basic System (ala Cthulhu Rising). Just wondering what other folks would use system-wise. That's all.

I would likely be happier with this if we were using Tri-Stat or Savage Worlds or something similar. We are not, however, and for pretty good reasons. I think it'll still be a fun game, I'm just more of a fan of "This is what I want to do... *pick that one thing and adjust* Okay, I'm done" character creation, at least when it's in a fairly open-ended setting.

In some ways my gaming preferences have changed. I used to LOVE to make characters. Spend hours tweaking the stats, skills and modifiers/ adjustments. Now I prefer to write up a backstory and pick a pre-generated character and adjust to fit (as long as there isn't much adjusting.)

I had difficulty conentrating today as well. I only got 4 hours of sleep on Sunday night, and I've been remarkably similar to "drunk" ever since.

Our typical quote to describe this type of mental state comes, I think, from an episode of Dinosaurs, that totally horrid show that a friend of mine started quoting. This is per my memory of a described scene, so while it may be off base in details, in essentials it is correct.

Basically there's a baby dino, and the daddy is trying to get him to go get help (daddy is stuck in a tar pit) and the baby goes "uh huh, uh huh, I'll help, Daddy!" He then wanders just out of sight, and the resounding high pitched squeal of "Ooh! A stick!" is heard from his general direction, at which the daddy just sighs with frustration.
