Here's the thing: I will list 10 things that begin with my assigned letter. If you would like a letter, post saying so, and I will give one to you. In turn, pick 10 things that begin with it and post that to your journal.

My letter, as assigned by [livejournal.com profile] amanofhats, is M.

1. Mommyhood. I'm a mom to two boys. They are my pride and joy and I love them very much. There was a time in my life that I thought I'd never be a parent; looking back, I can't help but feel fortunate to have them now. They are an added complication, but a very worthwhile one.

2. Me. :) I'm a very important thing that starts with that letter, at least in my world. If I didn't have me... well, this LJ would be a lot shorter, let me tell you.

3. Mellifluous. Isn't that a great word? I love that word.

4. Melicar. My great-grandmother's maiden name. I think it's fantastic, and I frequently use it for my characters. If you see somebody in an RPG book named Melicar, check the credits for my name.

5. Minions. Minions are important. Everyone needs minions. I should know, as I play one at my day job. :)

6. Music. I love music. Most specifically, I love music with really good lyrics and/or clever/difficult/gorgeous arrangments. Bonus points if I can sing to it. This undoubtedly explains my love for alternative rock, show tunes, some pop, folk music and certain rare flavors of hip-hop and rap. It also explains why I can admire certain aspects of industrial and electonica but I just can't get into them, sad though it is.

7. Mysteries. Like almost any writer, I fancy myself an amatuer sleuth to one extent or another. When I was in high school, I took it upon myself to try to read most of the greats of mystery literature. I got through quite a number of them, too. It wasn't until the tail end of that trend that I got into fantasy and sci-fi. On TV, I find this trend continues... I'd almost always rather watch a mystery than a piece of sci-fi or fantasy, depending on the variables (cheese, action, quality). Bonus points if the two are combined well. Given how much of my work finds its way into the fantasy/sci-fi genre, this is probably very backwards of me. I spend a lot more time on A&E and Biography than I do on the Sci-Fi channel, though. At the same time, I have no urge whatsoever to write a straight mystery novel. "The heart has its reasons whereof reason knows nothing," I suppose.

8. Merengue pies. This is quite possibly my favorite kind of dessert. I've gotten quite good at making them, and as a result, it takes a damn good merengue pie in a restaurant to impress me. I hardly ever order it as a result. Tricksy things, they are.

9. Mariners. Outside of Sooner football, this is as close as I come to being a sports fan. I've been to only one game, but I enjoyed it so much that I want to go back. I also want to not sit in the high, high seats so that I don't feel I'm about to topple down onto the field when I have to stand up.

10. Making stuff up. Okay, I cheated a bit with this one, but it's true. My entire career is making stuff up, and don't you think I'm not thanking my stars each and every day. It's a rare privilege. I could go into a career path that pays more but doesn't get to make stuff up, but I wouldn't be nearly so happy. Life's too short to hate your work. I can accept never being rich. I can't accept never being happy.
