So this year I didn't do resolutions... or rather, I know what I want to happen this year and I've already started the processes of making them happen. My traditional resolutions (work out, lose weight) aren't resolutions so much as they're processes that have been in the works for some time. They need to be continued, not made anew, so I'm not. I need to find work, but I'm working on that too. Especially since it's not really under my control, I'm not focusing on that as a yearly goal. It'll happen one way or the other by the end of February, I feel certain.
The things I want to specifically happen this year are:
But all that planning is not what I wanted to post about. That is not why I am a paragon of virtue today. I am the embodiment of Virtue today because I accomplished the following:
The things I want to specifically happen this year are:
- Go back to school. Made inquiries last year, talked to councilors, and now I'll be filling out a FAFSA as soon as taxes are done. Already in progress.
- Go abroad. In specific, I'm planning on trying to go to Scotland. I've always dreamed of it, and I have a friend who's willing to put me up and give me a base of operations for my stay, so boo-ya. First thing to do, get a passport. This is somewhat daunting, but I shall prevail -- at least as soon as I'm working again so I can afford the fee.
- Finish my damn novel. I've made progress, though, and I continue to do so. I will not set a time limit on it so long as work progresses when it can.
But all that planning is not what I wanted to post about. That is not why I am a paragon of virtue today. I am the embodiment of Virtue today because I accomplished the following:
- I flossed. It's a new beginning!
- I went to the gym and did cardio for 45 minutes! First time back since the holidays, and although I was thinking "Dear God, what was I thinking" at about 30 minutes, I did the rest. I had been discouraged because I'm under doctor's orders not to do weights or dancing while my back is messed up (for another week at least) but I went and did the cardio anyway. Go me. :)
- I took my insurance info to the lawyer I have retained to represent me regarding the car accident, and did not put it off indefinitely!
- I started on a costume for next month's LARP when I went over to Tarisse's last night! I did not want to, as I was tired and feeling vaguely cranky, but I did it anyway. As it turns out, whiplash and cutting tables do not get along, but Tarisse is an angel and helped me out a bit. It'll be a sort of sueded dark sage green, 12th-century English with a brocade pattern on the front and back panels. Same color only a solid on the side panels, with close fitting sleeves. Beige/ivory braid around the deep scoop neckline, same color leather cord for the laces. Ivy leaf buttons for the bottoms of the sleeves. I still can't believe I bought this color, as it's so far out of my normal color palette, but everyone insists it'll look good on me. The irony of wearing vaguely natural spring/autumn colors as a vampire is not lost on me. :) I'll form quite the contrast to the rest of the Invictus too, which is both amusing and accurate in the storyline as well, though quite coincidental.
The pattern is simple, which makes me say "yay." Tarisse wants me to do slashed hanging-down oversleeves in the brocade, which I am uncertain about. If I could line it in a contrasting color, like beige/ivory silk, I'd consider it. I'm not spending anything on fabric right now, though. - I have taken care of all the bureaucratic stuff I needed to for this week! UI claim filed, lawyer retained, appointment for car estimate made, envelopes mailed, check deposited, rent paid, etc. I am happy.
So, yes. You may bask in my glory. :) *beneficent nod*
