Well, crap.

My dryer just died. Given that it's a matched set with its geriatric washer as well, that probably means the other one's on its way out too. Repairmen have independently surmised that it's the motor, and given the brand, have suggested that I simply spend the money on a new one, as the repairs will cost just about that much anyway.

On the one hand, I technically have the money. On the other hand, that's about a third of my tuition for next semester. Given that I also have my first day on the 8th but won't get a check until the 20th -- and that not even a full check, I believe -- and no unemployment starting as of the 8th, I could really use to not have this happen right now. I may be holding off and seeking laundromats and the washing machines of friends for a while until I start getting paid regularly. This is "teh suck."

You might want to check out used dryers on Craigslist. I have seem them going for very reasonable prices: http://seattle.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=dryer

I'd suggest freecycle. I tried to give my dryer away a few months ago, and no one even took it. It wasn't great, but it was fully functional and free for the pickup.

Or, clothesline---better for your clothes and the environment.

I got my stove from Craigslist for $25. It was almost brand new, the owner was just remolding a kitchen.

Just the dryer? Things could be worse. Treat your washer gently in the meantime. String up a clothesline across your shower, and dry things there, over your shower curtain bar and flat on the floor/wherever until you find something (which I hope you do, and quickly).
