So today after I dropped the kiddos off, I met up with my friend Aimee (who is soon to be moved out of state). We went and walked around the Japanese Gardens at the Arboretum, marveled at the size of the koi in the pond, and were amused by a small Asian boy there with his grandparents. From there we went down to Madison Valley (which neither of us had known existed) and ate brunch at Cafe Flora, which was delightful. Yummy beignets, awesome pesto, excellent cheesy grits. I recommend if you're in the market for good food, and especially if you're looking for good vegetarian/vegan food.

From there we went window shopping up and down the street -- so much fun. I haven't done that in ages. Saw all sorts of knick knacks I want, including glass writing pens with multiple colored inks, hot-air balloon mobiles, burnout velvet silk scarves, gorgeous bedding, totally comfy and gorgeous lingerie, and a perfume I think I really, really like (and may go back and purchase -- cabbage rose and citrus, believe it or not).

From there we drove down to Pike Place and wandered around. I discovered that the tea shop there has jars suitable for sun tea, that the French restaurant there seems tempting, and that the cheese shop nearby is incredible -- their goat's milk cheddar is awesome even if you're not the least bit lactose intolerant. Now I have cheese curds. I'm very pleased.

Also, there's a Chinese import shop that's high end, but it has this shirt/jacket style in various silk brocades that I would die for. I have decided that when I lose weight, that will be my reward. It'll be a little pricey but so, so worth it. Walked down by the waterfront, looked out over the sound, finally found where the Aquarium is... just a wonderful day over all. I had a great time. :)

We lived just a block or two from Cafe Flora last year. I so miss the area! If you get back to Madison Valley again, try Voila or Harvest Vine. Chinoise is also excellent and, well, Essential Bakery.... My favorite shop is the consignment place, Fury. Good stuff all up and down that street. Glad you had such a nice day!

The delightful Cafe Flora is a regular brunch place when us out-of-towners are in Seattle for a Green Ronin weekend get-togther. They never disappoint!

Cafe Flora is WONDERFUL. My wifey and I took our littlest one there for breakfast a few times and noshed on their lovely veggy/vegan fare. As a devout carnivore, I was amazed at how filling and tasty the breakfast proved sans meat.

They also make a mean Bloody Mary, if that's your thing in the morning...

When IS the next Green Ronin get together? There's a lot of folks that I'd love to chat with when ya'll get into town.

Columbus Day weekend in October, although it'll be pretty filled with work-related planning meetings and such.
