So [livejournal.com profile] scarlettina was doing the interests meme and I was interested, so here's the interests she picked. If you want me to ask about your interests, post and I will pick seven of yours and let you tell me all about it.

1) Baking. I like baking. I like baked goods. I'm actually a far better baker than I am a cook. I find it very calming... more than anything else, baking makes me feel at home. Granted, my presentation skills for both are somewhat questionable, but I can make a good pie crust and bread dough and cookies and all that matter of stuff. Also, most of the recipes I have from my grandmother are the desserts she would make. I think I get this from her. It's unfortunate that it's mostly bad for me. :) My favorite/heritage recipes (all from scratch, naturally): Angel Food Cake with Lemon Icing, Glazed Banana Cake with Coconut, Lemon Meringue Pie, my grandmother's Cinnamon Crescent Rolls, and Hershey's Cocoa Chocolate Cake.

2) Ballroom dancing. When I was small, I would often watch old musicals on TV. I had no knowledge of dancing as a trained profession, and since I saw normal people dancing like crazy, I thought everyone could do it. I've secretly wanted to do it ever since then, but learned that no, normal people couldn't leap like that straight out of the gate. This past year, though, following my divorce, I realized that I had to get out of the house and DO something... so I picked dance classes in the vague hope that it would help me be more social. Well, I'm not entirely sure it helped in the social stuff, but it was an amazing time. Now I absolutely adore dancing. I'm working on getting my nerve up to go to one of the local ballrooms, but I'm fearful that I will go and no one will want to dance with me... and unlike club dancing, you can't foxtrot or swing dance by yourself, you know? Still, I'll get there eventually.

3) Firefly. I'm not a devotee of Whedon, as it happens. A friend showed me Firefly, though, and I was hooked. I'm not exactly a Browncoat, but I did purchase the DVD set (which is something I never do) and I then gave it to my dad, planning to get another for myself. It's good stuff, and getting to play in [livejournal.com profile] jediwiker's Firefly game was one of the best experiences I've had in gaming, certainly in playing in a setting based on a book or TV program or movie.

4) Fused glass. Glass is fascinating. I'm totally enamored of it. The best thing about it is how forgiving it is, and how many different ways you can play with it. Fused glass lets you create effects and shapes that are nearly impossible otherwise. I'm nothing more than a newbie with fusing, but if I had a world's worth of disposable cash, I'd buy a kiln and play with glass all day long.

5) Singing. I really enjoy it. I don't do it as much as I used to, and this makes me sort of sad. I've given thought to trying to join a chorus (as I enjoy choral singing almost equally with solo performance) but with trying to finish school and having boys and such, it's not really in the cards right now. Someday I at least need to go do karaoke or something.

6) Sooners. I attended the University of Oklahoma, and part and parcel with that are the OU Sooners. The Sooners (their name taken from those who snuck across the line early in the Oklahoma Land Run (aka the "sooners") as opposed to those who waited until the gun went off (aka "boomers") will always have a soft spot in my heart, not the least of which is because my mom is a devoted fan and it gives us something to talk about other than my children. :)

7) Weightlifting. When I exercise, it comes down to cardio and weights, and of the two, I'd rather work with weights. My body seems to really like weights. If I were a guy who liked working out, I'd be set. As it is, it's all sort of not as useful as I'd like it to be. It gives me a nice sense of accomplishment to pit myself against the weights and come out on the other end, though. It is, perhaps, not very "girly" of me. Then again, in many ways I'm not very good at being a girl, so I suppose it's at least consistent.
