I now know what it's like to be one of Santa's elves. Every night for roughly two weeks, I've been up until 2, 3, 4 in the morning painting miniatures. See, my two sons asked Santa for a skeleton army and a lizard army respectively, both of which while pointing to various posters and pictures from Warhammer. I blame their father, really. He's been obsessing over Warhammer Fantasy stuff for months, and would spend time geeking over their website in detail with the boys in tow. Arrrrgh.

So anyway, I posted something to this effect a month or so ago on RPGnet, and I got tons of lizards and skeletons. Most of the lizards were 5th edition, but it really doesn't matter in the least. I now have something like 200 lizard figures. Wow.

One guy sold me skeletons that were marked down considerably from retail. They were 5th edition and not Tomb Kings (Alisdair's preferred skeletons), but it's amazing how little change the base skeleton sprues have undergone (read "none"), and buying one regement of Tomb King warriors was enough to update the whole mess. So now we're painting like mad people, trying desperately to get by on little sleep and get them all done in time to be under the tree. Ye gods.

We are not painting all of them by any means, just a couple of units each. If they take care of them, we'll see where it goes from there. Whew.

In other happy Xmas news, we were able to get the kids' big presents after all. I'd put down a skateboard and some skates for the boys on layaway, but I wasn't coming up with the money. My mom offered to let us put it on her credit card, though, and pay her back next month. I'm glad. Though I fear my kids on these things, I'm excessively glad we were able to get them (along with the requisite safety equipment as well, of course). I expect much squealing on the morning of the 26th.

In less happy news, my order for David got screwed up and will not be here in time for Christmas. They screwed up the zip code and it got returned. I am most put out.

In non Xmas news, I managed to mostly get David's school paid off -- as in we paid for it, got one of the checks I was owed, have another ostensibly in the mail to me, and are now waiting to see how high the check to his school bounces when it hits the mail. See, the late fees on the tuition pushed the amount over what I had coming (when it would have barely covered it before). I need something like another $200 in the account in the next couple of days to cover it all, and frankly, I don't see a way to do it. I've hit up a company that owes me money, but I know all too well that they'd have sent it to me already if they had any to spare right now. My parents are strapped, and I have literally nothing that would bring that much if I sold it, even including my wedding rings. I've talked to David about asking his sister or his mother, but this is one of those family vulnerability things of his, and I know he's not going to do it. Sigh. Frankly, I don't think I'm going to do it either. The fees I'll suffer from the bouncing are just not worth dealing with the issues from his family.

So. Some good, a little bad, and all of it new. Yay me. :)

Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, and Happy Holidays to everyone.
