Sep. 25th, 2004 08:33 amWell, the garage sale ended and netted me about $185. My husband got another $85 for the books, giving us a respectable $270 or so, not counting what people online offered for the RPG books. As a note, they'll be going out on Monday. If you haven't sent me your address, please do so or risk not getting cheap books sent your way. Wednesday is the last day I'll be here to send them, and I'm not dragging them to Seattle with me.
We had going-away parties at school for both boys yesterday. Chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles and kool-aid were had by all, and addresses were exchanged. Apparently there are to be postcards sent back and forth and pen pal arrangements set up. I think that's kind of fun, and I'm glad it went so well. One of Will's friends gave him a puzzle as a going-away present, which I thought was really sweet, though the class as a whole had a hard time understanding why they couldn't sing Happy Birthday. :) I've been dealing with a goodly bit of Momy-guilt over taking the boys away from here and their friends, even though I know it'll be for their good in the long run.
Oh, and regarding Alisdair's teacher? They'd split the class in two, and between that and her working with him, suddenly he's not having more than one small episode a day, if that, and is making 100's on nearly every bit of his school work. It's still not approaching his capabilities, but at least he's focusing better. Of course, now I'm taking him away and throwing a huge change into his life, so who knows what will happen. Oy. The first day for them at their new school is next Friday. David and I will be going with them in the morning, to help them settle in. I don't imagine we'll need to stay all day, but our schedule is pretty much open, so we'll see.
I finally got my relocation money, so I'm feeling remarkably less stressed about the whole move. Utilities are on, cable and internet are scheduled to be turned on, kids are enrolled, the last of my bills here have been paid, and I'm going on Sunday to see my grandfather before we move. Granted, as it's 4 hours each way and we can't stay for more than 2 due to his health, I'll admit to some degree of dread about the visit. It would likely be different if I'd ever been close to him, but it just never worked out that way. He'll get to see Alisdair and William (his namesake), though, and that's a good thing too. David will probably stay home and pack. I envy him a bit.
I have a new motor for my car. I think I forgot to post that while I was away finding a house, my car died. See, it blew a head gasket while David was coming back from town with the kids. He didn't realize it at the time, though. He just saw the car was overheating suddenly, so he pulled over to take a look, noticed the coolant was low, poured some in from the bottle we keep in the trunk, and continued on his way to town. Given the children, this was probably the only thing he could have done. After all, he was at least 5 miles out, and they simply couldn't walk that far. Still, it effectively melted the engine in a spectacular fashion, or so I'm told.
I managed to get a used motor for about $400 down, though (the rest was rolled into my car payment thanks to the manager at CarMart -- where I bought my car -- he's a D20 fan and I'd given him some spare comp copies in the past, so he found my motor for me and financed the remainder into my car payments). My dad then found an acquaintance of his who is moving and needs household items -- like the ones we're not bringing -- and is willing to install the motor in trade, thus saving me a buttload of money I could not rightly spend on car repairs right now, at least not and expect to eat for the next month in Seattle. Since not eating isn't really an option, I'm taking the offers I've been given and moving forward. Hopefully it'll be fixed by Monday. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
So, with 6 days left, I'm a good bit of the way toward being moved, for better or worse. I hope it's for better, because it's too late to turn back now.
