Well, I got the date for my day in divorce court. Finished up a few tweaks to the parenting plan and whatnot. Spent a few days feeling like I got kicked in the chest all over again, and I'm still prone to getting weepy with very slight but specific provocation, but overall I'm okay. I imagine the day of the hearing will be similarly reactive. I am attempting to account for this in advance. Frex, David's taking the kids that night even though it would normally by my night to do so, and I'm considering just taking the day off work -- while the hearing itself should be over in a bit less than an hour, I can't guarantee that I'll be fit to get anything done.

Of course, given stress, a bit of time to myself, and a few extra bucks in my account, the time seemed right for some retail therapy. I ended up in Fred Meyer of all places, looking to grab some groceries. I ended up looking over at the clothing area, where lots of things were on sale, and... well, let's see what the list is. I got new hiking boots that are comfy for $17.50. I got a chocolate brown suede jean jacket for $30 (went originally for $100) AND it's washable! I got a few basic shirts and a couple of new nightgowns, so that I can dispose of the rattier/more ill-fitting pieces of my wardrobe. I also did not get everything in black or red. I am happy. I hadn't planned to buy the jacket, but it called to me with it's siren song of hawtness. What could I do? :)

I also took myself out to dinner on Friday. I went down to Columbia City and stopped in at The Wellington, a nice little restaurant that specializes in southern cuisine. They have live jazz on the weekends, and the pianist/singer was very good. I really enjoyed that. For dinner, I had a nice glass of Pinot Gris and the buttermilk fried chicken dinner. The wine was surprisingly good for all that I have a the palate of a blank piece of paper. It was dry, but it had a hint of sweetness about it midway through the taste. The meal was preceded by a cornbread round with celery and onion baked in, along with butter. The cornbread by itself was a bit blander than I'm used to, but a touch of butter made it a delight. Dinner came with three (3!) pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and collard greens. I ate one piece of chicken and parts of the other two dishes, then had the rest boxed up. The chicken was amazing -- moist and spiced just right. I even liked the greens, and I've never been one to be a willing participant in any meal consisting of wilted/cooked greens. I did have dessert -- an individual peach cobbler served ala mode with vanilla ice cream. Again, a great dessert. Reminded me a lot of home, as pinapple-peach cobbler is one of my dad's favorites. The only thing that might have made it more like home was fried okra, and the waiter said he was keeping track of the requests and hoped they would be able to offer it soon. He's been trying to talk the owner into it for a while now, apparently. (You'll have to trust me on the wonderfulness of fried okra if you haven't had it yourself.) In the end, I spent something like $23 for wine, a meal, and dessert. I will definitely go back -- though not too often, 'cause it's not for the faint of diet. :)

Today I've been both cleaning up my house a bit and being hugged by my kids a lot. It's good to have them back. I think we're going to be okay.
