List 'o Thoughts
Nov. 7th, 2006 02:35 pm1) I voted. Go me. :)
2) Rosie is most unhappy with the rain. I open the door in the mornings to let her go out and relieve herself, and she stops, sniffs at the doorway, and looks up at me with this expression that says "Mom... you have GOT to be kidding. I'll wait, thanks."
3) I got my new computer set up at my desk this weekend! I also moved furniture around a bit, and cleaned my kitchen AND my bathroom, including floor mopping and vacuuming! All on Sunday, with a headache that would knock over a small horse all the weekend prior! And I watched Goldeneye -- so cheesy, but Alan Cummings is fun. "I am een-VEENCE-able!" Hee.
4) I have not made a lot of writing progress the last week, though I did make some. Previously to getting my new desk setup completed, I ended up sitting on the couch and trying to write with my keyboard on my lap. This just killed my back. Bah. All in all, it should be much easier to get some stuff done now. I have a dance class this evening, but I also have my notebook. I'll be working on my novel stuff before and after.
It's funny... I'm realizing that I'm having a really hard time overcoming the short story model of writing. If I write describing what people are doing or thinking or both, I start to feel antsy about it. I feel like I'm spending forever on a topic, but when I go back and review it, it's a whole 3 paragraphs. It feels in my mind like 3 pages instead and that I really need to move on now. I might be right, and it's almost certainly areas for which trimming will be an option, but writing it initially is important. I'm just so used to keeping word count firmly in mind and not wasting important paragraphs on pretty descriptions when action and story should take precedence. It's not a hard and fast rule even then, of course, but it's much more necessary for a short story than a novel.
5) I have some minor amount of serious stuff going on. Looking for work, money is short, personal stuff is somewhere on the sliding scale of suckage... there's good stuff too, though, so I'm choosing to focus on that here and just work on not letting the bad stuff bite me in the ass. If someone wants to know more, he or she can ask.
