Jul. 15th, 2007 11:06 pmI spent much of today cleaning up after my life. I've been unable to so much as focus on housework for weeks now, only doing the bare minimum to get by. Today with the help of the boys, I did a bit more. Alisdair, as it turns out, is a genius at sorting our mail, whereas I'm overwhelmed by all the paper and it just piles up. As he said, "I'm a genius at this! And it's a life skill!" My sweet boy. Between the two of us, we got a goodly bit of the living room in order and we can see the coffee table again. William took out the recycling and put clothes in the dryer. Both he and Will helped me with dishes, and I helped them do their laundry (big steps). Their room is still... well... their room, but I feel heartened by the progress we did make.
Tonight we had a small setback... one of the boy's friends came over tonight. I was going to send him home at 9:00, but the boys objected. I explained that perhaps this once I could let him stay for an extra half hour, but it would mean we wouldn't get to play the new board game we bought for our family. Both boys agreed. It turned out after the friend left, though, that Alisdair was distracted at the time. He didn't remember the question or giving an answer, and he was deeply distraught. It was a long evening from that point on.
I ended up watching a new series premiere. It was on Lifetime, God help me, but it was surprisingly good. It's called State of Mind, and it stars Lili Taylor. Now, I've seen a goodly portion of her work just from watching John Cusack movies, and I've always enjoyed her performances. I couldn't bring myself to not at least give it a show now that someone gave her a show of her own. I laughed and cried during the pilot, and I think I'm hooked. I just wish it weren't a Lifetime show, so I didn't have to feel so dirty. :) The pilot is available for free on www.lifetimetv.com. Have a look.
Also, I discovered my chair has been at the lowest setting for ages now. No wonder I couldn't get any work done at my desk. I feel really dumb for not noticing this before now.
