So, the parents are gone again. They left early Saturday morning, as it happened, so we said our goodbyes Friday night. Much weeping commenced, especially with the boys. And then I couldn't help them and I'm feeling sensitive so I get tearful, and then Mom gets tearful.... sigh. And then in backing up to get out of the parking lot, I go straight into a very short fire hydrant, which clipped the corner of my bumper and bashed it in. Suck. There was no other damage, though, so it's just cosmetic. And annoying. And probably expensive to repair. But cosmetic.
On the whole, it was a really good visit. The boys swam for like three days straight in the hotel pool (which had almost no one else using it), learning to dive for quarters their grandfather threw in. I spent some time with my dad and mom (took dad shopping for a used laptop, then mom took me shopping for new job clothes). I also ended up getting my brakes checked and oil changed while they were here, and they helped out with that because that's apparently what parents do. Dad's evidently learned to cope with his teeth better, so we ate out at multiple suburban restaurants other than Denny's over the course of the visit. The most successful was Outback, I believe, and the least successful was IHOP (couldn't escape the diner entirely, but that's okay).
It was good to see my parents again. They're considering maybe next year going on a whale watching tour or going to Victoria during the visit, which would be fun. I am reminded that I need to get passports for myself and the children while we're at it over the course of the next year. I love my parents. I'd go crazy if I were with them all the time, but I'd still like to see them more than I do. It's a shame they could never envision moving here, but in the end, that might be for the best. :)
