Oct. 11th, 2008 12:05 pm1) Made the Alton Brown steel-cut overnight oats last night. As I was putting it in, I thought "this isn't possibly enough for all three of us," so I doubled the recipe.
Um.
Tasty, but now I still have 2/3 of a vat of steel-cut oatmeal with fruit in it (apples and cranberries, for those at home). So now I'm looking into things one does with leftover oatmeal. I'm tempted to try to make sort of pan-friend oatmeal cakes out of it for easier use next week. I'm letting it congeal a bit in the fridge for easier handling. We'll see.
2) Saw Ultraviolet last night. Hadn't seen it before. I think that makes a total of 12 movies I hadn't seen before this year, according to the Damn Movie Meme. I... didn't think it sucked. I mean yes, it sort of sucked, if you were looking for an explained plotline or character history/development or any of that, and yes, they left the pistol on the living room mantle for the most part (moving it to the coffee table in the third act doesn't count if you don't fire it), but... it wasn't about that.
It actually struck me as somewhat Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, in that there's a larger story going on but this particular thing isn't about that, it's about one event in a character's life and how that comes about. It's almost like it's trying to be Aristotlean in its premise, although it doesn't really succeed there either. Granted, there's no comparison between the two works other than that, but still. There's a lot of post-modern influence going on there. Again, the execution sorta sucked, but in a foreign film sort of way, it wasn't half bad. And it was pretty.
Except for the nose filters the bad guy wore. Those were just nasty.
3) Either today or tomorrow I have to go to campus and hang about the library, doing research for an upcoming report. I also have to write two short papers. Given that I'm getting together with friends tonight, it perhaps makes the most sense for me to head over to the library today, since that's a relatively short amount of time to spend. Hmm. I shall ponder this... but hopefully not for so long that I don't get around to doing either.
