So the boys and I just got back from a quick trip to Olympia for Free Comic Book Day, and to see Eric and Gabi and let them see the boys and take back a book I borrowed. Whew.

It always pleases me to go into Gabi's store (Olympia Cards and Comics, in case you're interested). She is the shining avatar of How To Run A Game Store. The place was packed and will only continue to be so as the day goes on. People were buying stuff, signings were about to happen, and kids wandered around with new comics clutched in their hands. I even broke down and bought some (Issues 2 and 3 of the new Red Star (I wanted issue 1, but they didn't have it) and Issue #1 of Pride and Prjudice, because... well, it had to be done, okay?), even though my budget knows better.

I did not, unfortunately, have the extra $10 for this fabulous poster of the cover of Eric's new comic with Brandon Jerwa, Wide AwakeWide Awake. It completely rocks. I can't even tell you how much. Just click on the link and read it for yourself.

Afterwards it was lunch time and the kiddos needed feeding, so we went to this Mongolian grill place not too far away for food. William was highly dubious of the process and was, in fact, deeply disturbed by the idea that you got to be around your food, especially the meat, while it was still raw. The fact that it was very cold/frozen helped him not one bit. He agreed to try it, though, on the condition that if he didn't like it, I'd stop by McDonald's afterward. As it turns out, his primary concern was that he'd be eating raw food in some weird sushi-like fashion. He was much relieved when it turned out that yes, they did cook it all through before giving it back to you, and there was much rejoicing. The boys and I all ate well. Good good stuff.

Now I am home and have a heck of a lot of writing to do. I wish I could have stayed longer at the store (on the days when I get down there, I'll often camp out and read comics until the owners have free time and we can visit, but Free Comic Book Day is a bad idea for that and, besides, my kids aren't /that/ patient) but there's always next time. My resolve to try my hand at comic scripting is strengthened again as well, which is never a bad thing.

All right, back to work.
