So. I mowed. I don't think I've ever mowed before, which is either a testament to my sheltered life or a nod to all the places I've lived that didn't have yards, or at least not yards I was responsible for. Unfortunately, I only got about 2/3 of it done before my landlord's mower (which I had borrowed) blew a gasket and started leaking oil like there was no tomorrow. Thankfully I let him know as soon as I saw a problem, so when he looked at it and said, "go ahead and let me know if there's a problem again," and I continued to mow a little while after before it dumped another half-cup of oil, we were able to agree that I Am NOT At Fault. Whew.
Things I have learned about mowing a lawn:
1) Doing it when the grass is tall sucks.
2) Yes, there really IS that much grass in the yard.
3) Cut grass turns things green! (like my hands! Dude!)
4) Cut grass does not magically disappear. Really sad about this one.
5) Sunlight = sunburns! Dude.
6) Rosie is not zoned for lawnmowers.
7) If you announce to three 11-yr-old boys, "Who wants to mow the lawn?" they will vacate the area at impressive speeds.
8) Watching the Sounders play after mowing even 2/3 of a lawn feels particularly virtuous.
