innocent_man back on a plane this morning. Yesterday evening we went out and I introduced him to my friends Phil and Trey, and I met his friend Peter (whom I'd met a number of times, apparently, but not to speak to so we both looked familiar to one another but we couldn't place it). We met and had dinner at the Coastal Kitchen on 15th, which if you haven't been there is totally marvelous if you have any fondness for seafood (or even if you don't, because their land-food options are delicious as well).
I had an oyster on the half shell for the first time, courtesy of Matt. They served it with a lemon vodka granita which was to die for. Really, really good. I am now a fan, although the experience of eating an oyster that way was a bit odd. I have no objection to doing it again in the future, though. Peter got a bit of alligator sausage as an appetizer which we all tried (they currently have a special New Orleans-themed menu). It tasted a lot like sausage, which isn't bad but isn't particularly gator-y. That's okay, though. The sausage was good, and I can now say I've tried alligator.
For main course, I got a coconut crusted rockfish with mashed yams, roasted corn rounds, and an amazing sort of lime sauce I can't possibly describe properly, except to say YUM. Matt got paella, Peter got gumbo, and Phil got big-ass shrimp cooked with the heads on, along with amazing cheesy grits (which I tasted, yes) and collard greens. Really, just an amazing dinner all around. If you haven't been there yet, you should go.
After that we retired to Phil's place, where we were joined by Trey and a friend of Phil's named Greg, and Matt ran a game of Geist for us that had an Orpheus theme, which I found awesome. :) People had a good time, we stayed until nearly midnight, and then we came back to my house.
I really enjoyed Matt's visit. It was so very good to have him come see me here and meet some of my friends. I think it's safe to say a good time was had by all. :)
