I realized I hadn't really posted about the boys or how things are generally going yet. I think in part this is because it's still hard for me to talk about the boys. They're doing fine and I'm doing fine and things are good, but I miss them terribly. I don't really like summoning up that emotion randomly. It doesn't do anyone any good, and I deal with it enough as it is. Yesterday, though, I got good news and I feel good and rested, so today I wish to do a status report.

The boys are doing well, firstly. Despite some initial settling-in issues which were fairly mild, by all accounts, things have smoothed out nicely with them there. They're both loving being with their baby sister, and I can count on every other Skype session or so including a glimpse of Annie as they carry her about and show her off to me. We aim for talking to each other via Skype three times a week -- we're averaging two and a half, all things considered, but that's not bad. On Friday we had to settle for a phone call rather than Skype -- but that's okay, because the reason they couldn't make the call was because they were on their way to sign a new lease.

So David and Shawn are moving in August to a new condo they're leasing in Renton. This does mean the boys will be in the Renton school district (which I need to do more research on) rather than Seattle, but it could be worse. I'm just relieved that the decision has been made and David can get them enrolled over the summer rather than the week before school. David and Shawn are both going back to school as well, which should be good for both of them and for the financial outlook for the kiddos as well. I've got my fingers crossed, and the next however-many months will be an improvement, at least.

Will is holding steady on his weight, which is good, if not actually losing a bit. I'm glad about that, and so is he. He rode his skateboard for the first time in a few years the other day and discovered that his 11-yr-old self is a lot better at turning than his 8-yr-old self, so yay! They saw Clash of the Titans the other day, and Will told me that he liked it, but it was "sorta goth." His favorite part was Perseus turning the Kraken to stone with Medusa's head. Alisdair is suddenly all about gaming and wants to run his own Savage Worlds game. I think I'll have to pick up some basic SW stuff at GenCon and send it to him.

Also, Al is starting to really be a teenager. Not only has his voice deepened and he's gained a smudge on his upper lip, but he's experimenting with his hair. His dad was giving them both buzz cuts, basically (they like that in the summer, and Will grows enough hair to keep him overheated on a near-permanent basis if it doesn't get cut) and Al stopped his dad when they got near his bangs. He now looks very hipster/new wave/punk (I couldn't actually tell you where it falls), with short hair all over his head except for the locks over his forehead, which wave down to nearly his eyebrows. He really likes it and is likely to maintain it for a while... at least until his head starts getting cold on a regular basis.

I'm supposed to go back to seen them over Labor Day. I'm not sure how I'm going to work that at this point -- airfare is crazy high right now. Seriously, I'd budgeted for somewhere just shy of $300 after taxes, but all I'm finding is like $450 -- and that was before budgeting for books for school. I don't know. I'll figure it out. I need to get back and see them. I miss them like crazy, and I know they miss me too. And now I'm getting all tearful, so I think that's enough of that for now.
