Since becoming diabetic, I've made a decision - I'm not going to deny myself something when I -really- want it, but I'm also not going to eat crap.
If I crave something sweet, I'm going to get top of the line chocolate or other sweets. If it's bread, then slices of crappy supermarket bread aren't going to cut it. Etc.
I've found that I'm much happier with this setup, especially since the really good stuff tends to sate whatever it is in me that is craving that thing better, with less consumption.
