I may be getting a car today. Since my old one died last sumer (preceeding the dreaded marriage snafu by mere days) I have been borrowing from my mom and dad when I had to go somewhere. I simply didn't have any money to put toward a new one, not and pay for my husband's school, etc. It was ugly.
I filed my taxes last week, though, and they've been accepted. My brother told me about this car he saw, and I went to peek at it yesterday. I ran the VIN on CarFax, and it's a one-owner. A lot high milage than I'd like (165,000) and a bit older than I was hoping for (an 88 Toyota Camry), but it's a reliable type and it's only $2500. There's this other car, though, too... it was owned by a rental company previously. It's an '01 Chevrolet Cavalier, with only 37,000 miles on it. MPG is pretty close to the same on both cars, but the latter still has its initial warrenty intact. I can take it into a dealership and have them check everything before it expires, and fix whatever's wrong (if anything). I also know it's been maintained well. It's also about twice as much as the other one ($5500). So that's a pain. But I might be able to keep it around longer.
I think this afternoon we're going to go have a test drive. I'm guaranteed to have my tax return by the 30th, so if they're willing to take a post-dated check for the down payment, I'm golden. If they aren't, I come back in two weeks.
Still. It's a caaaaar. It could be MY car. I've so missed having my own car. Mmmm. Car.
