So the deal is, you ask for words, and I give them to you. Then you have to explain the words.

It's all [livejournal.com profile] daydreamweaver's fault. She made me do it. Really.

Let me know if you'd like five words in turn via the comments below.

Singing is awesome. It's like distilled beauty. I'll sing when I'm happy, or when I'm sad, or when I just want to feel like there's something bigger than me out there. Singing is the closest I come to worship these days. If I couldn't do it anymore for some reason, it would be like losing part of myself.

I don't really believe in magic. I sort of believe in believing in magic, if that makes sense. I love the idea of it, and I think that if there were magic, it has a great deal more to do with every day life than it does weird mystical experiences or stage illusions. That said, if you're really good at magic tricks, I will happily be your captive audience until you run out of stuff to perform. :)

Love, huh? Hmm. I've got somebody in my life who keeps telling me that "love is action." That is, what you do is more important than what you say. Someone can say they love you all they want, but if the actions don't back it up, it doesn't mean anything. I get the general gist of what he's saying and I don't think he's wrong. I'm not entirely sure it's that simple, though. I like it as a rule of thumb, though. :)

Toes. Everyone's got 'em, but hardly anyone likes them. I actually like my toes, as long as I don't look at them too hard. I think they match my feet pretty well. I've seen some really ugly feet out there in the world, and mine aren't, and part of that is due to the toes. I don't polish my toenails, though. It just seems wrong.

I have two favorite colors in the world, and one of them is red. It looks great on me in a huge variety of shades, it gets attention and makes my skin look all pale and yet not dead, and it's got energy, which is why it's the color of the pillows on my couch and my living room curtains. I love red.

Wrong? We are obviously using that word differently ...

It's not simple! I'll have to do a post about this sometime, clearly. :)

Well, I don't usually polish my fingernails either. I accept that you have a bias on the issue, though. *grin*

Clearly you should, yes. :)

This is entertaining. Hit me with five and I'll see what I can do with them.

I really don't mind if someone does it or not .. but describing it as "wrong"? It just seems like a real loose use of the word. I try to stick with "wrong" == "causes harm" ... but I think I'm fighting a losing battle against the world with this one.

If I look down at my toes and they're a color they aren't normally, I have a moment of "wait, that's wrong." Sometimes I can get past this, but there's always that moment of dissonance. I don't expect this to apply to anyone else's feet or hands or whatnot. Many people do lovely things with nails whichever end they're on. It's not an implied value judgement, honest.

Gotcha. That's simply not an instance where I would use the word wrong. :)

I like these types of memes, and I really liked your answers to the words you got. Lay the five on me!

Just to chip in on the love thing: I was married to a woman who told me she loved me but didn't treat me like she did. After that I was in a LTR with a woman who didn't tell me that she loved me, but she most certainly treated me like she did. For me, I think that neither extreme is healthy -- words of love without action can lead to a particularly nasty type of cognitive dissonance, whereas acts of love without the verbal expression were the timid expressions of a couple of broken people who were too afraid to fully commit. So, do both!
