eurydicebound: (Jane Eyre)
So yesterday I went and dropped off a bunch of papers and paperwork. I stopped by the English department and talked to them about my statement of purpose, which it turns out I was not getting right. I now have a better idea of direction to go with it. I'm vaguely annoyed at Not Being Done, but that was a fairly unrealistic expectation anyway. I am more concerned about Not Being Done On Time. I suppose that's how everybody who's doing this feels at about this time, though.

Right now, my biggest issue is not my statement of purpose. It's my transcripts and my writing sample. All my samples, see, are 8-10 pages, when what I need is around 20. My best shot is to take one of my current papers and expand it out, but that means picking one. That'll mean some intensive review post haste, and that means getting my shit together and getting this done in the next two weeks, and one of those weeks I'll be out of town and away from research materials. So... gaaaah. Also, I have to come up with money for roughly... seven transcripts from three facilities each. OUs is free if I mail the requests, so praise be for that. UW is $9 a pop, though, and BCC (now just BC) is $6 and change per. Not counting money for anything else I need this month. Here's hoping.

Oh, and my neighbors across the street have a new 80s van, the type with windows in the back panel and curtains and all that, that sounds like its motor is on its last legs. They go out to the street and have fights in it, which is preferable to when they'd go out to the street and have their lovers' quarrels just generally.

Boys are doing well. Will's doing Safety Patrol at school and planning to run for secretary of K-Kids, which is sort of like a student council sort of thing -- they run kid-based charity projects and such at school. Penny Harvest, that sort of thing. Al's chugging right along and doing great on his work and social stuff. Last night I went to class much against my will. I'd made cookies for the boys using ready-made cookie dough and surprised them with them, right before I had to leave. When I got back, the trash had been taken out, they'd gotten ready and just put themselves to bed, and they'd worked on cleaning their room. And they left me a cookie, with the sign "Yours" next to it and an arrow pointing to the cookie. My children are awesome. :)

Classes are good. I'm really enjoying my honors English class. I'm enjoying most of my art history class, though it's somewhat overwhelming. If I could just audit the class and not have to be graded, I'd be having a blast. Have to get my head around my honors thesis, but I'm working on that.

I'm heading out at gawdawful Monday morning to go to Ohio for a week, taking a much needed vacation, as frankly I'm running the ragged edge of DONE, and I can't afford to be DONE right now as I have half a quarter to go, not to mention holidays and all that sort of thing. Think happy vacation thoughts for me.
