So, I'm apparently living back in Norman, Oklahoma in this dream, and still working in the game industry. For some reason, [livejournal.com profile] mearls is in town for something or other and I've offered to take him out to dinner while he's here. We're walking up to Campus Corner north of the University of Oklahoma (my old stomping grounds), only it's oddly expanded, as it often is when that area shows up in my dreams. Pretty much the same layout, too, only now the University Bookstore has this sister store that apparently sells really high-end furniture, and a lot of the people from the bookstore (my old employer) now work there too. Wierd.

So anyway, we're taking this shortcut through the furniture store to save a few blocks of walking around it, and we end up coming out the far side (thanks to an old acquaintance of mine, who was supposed to stop people from taking a shortcut through the store but let us get away with it) and go to this restaurant. I figure since Mearls is from a place where they have real restaurants, he'd rather go somewhere that isn't a chain, so we start looking around. Eventually we find this really ritzy place, and get seated next to the in-house masseuse and the in-house dental assistant (do I know why they offer teeth cleanings to their patrons along with a meal? No, I don't. It seemed fucking wierd to me in the dream, too.)

So we get dinner, and I discover that I'm wearing this nice purple satin evening dress... with my raggedy old green terry bathrobe as a wrap. I keep meaning to take it off, as it's wholly unsuited for the place I'm in and I don't even know why I wore it, but then it's cold in the place, and I keep putting it back on without thinking about it. After a while, this gets really annoying. Mearls is really amused at me, and the place I have chosen. He goes for the backrub but passes on the dental cleaning. I decline for both. The food is good, but soon it's time to take him back to his hotel.

And that's where I wake up.

Frickin' wierd, man.

First, I'm glad that my general aversion to chain restaurants and my east coast snobbishness are evident enough that they showed up in the dream.

Second, the weird thing is that I just went to a furniture store to buy a futon. And I really need to schedule a dentist appointment, and a backrub is always good.

Third, I had a dream last night that I went to a store that allowed you to ride robotic horses on an obstacle course for a few bucks. Then I dreamed about Splinter Cell some more.

Fourth, I hope I didn't eat much, since I *am* on a diet.

*grin*

I wouldn't generally call it east coast snobbishness, jut a difference in perspective. I mean, in the rural area where I live, if it's not a chain restaurant it's either a really good or potentially questionable Mexican restaurant, or it's the ubiquitous "cafe" where the only semi-reliable items are hamburgers and chicken-fried steaks. Granted, Norman isn't really rural in the same sense, and they do have good restaurants that have never seen a franchise agreement in their lives.

I know that in Chicago, people were quaintly horrified if you thought a chain restaurant was the epitome of good cuisine. I assumed it was a characteristic of places that weren't where I grew up. :)

And no, neither of us ate much. :)
