So. I'm at nearly 19 pages. Tomorrow I'll pass 20, and if I have a really good day I'll go quite a bit further. 20 is the minimum for the essay. I'm not nearly done (go figure). 30 is ostensibly the max, but we all know we can push that a little if needed. I've finished the section on my first text, Fall of the House of Usher. I'd assumed that would be my short one, given the size of the story. I'd like to note for the record that I was evidently smoking crack when I made this assumption. I have a whole new sense of respect for that story, though... damn. I could write a lot more about it but enough is enough, frankly. I'd assumed five pages--I needed eight.
I am roughly halfway done, though realistically a bit more than that. I have the sections on Rebecca and We Have Always Lived In the Castle left to do, plus the conclusion. The conclusion is going to be way shorter than I've outlined it as, but I think that's fine. I was mostly spitballing about the conclusion in my outline anyway. If I can fit each remaining book overview into five pages each -- hey there, you in the back, it isn't nice to laugh at the stressed-out senior who's moving in less than three weeks -- then I'll come up just shy of 30, and then if I run another 2-4 pages in the conclusion, I'll be able to wrap it up.
Tomorrow I work from 8 AM-12 noon, and then I go see a friend for coffee at 1. My kids get home at 9 or so. I won't be able to stay long at coffee, but I can't cancel either -- these are my good-byes, and I get little enough time for them as it is. That probably leaves me six hours to write, all things considered. I will not finish this paper in six hours--even at my best 12-15 pages of good, supported literary analysis with footnotes in six hours is not bloody likely. I'm getting there, though -- if I can finish with Rebecca tomorrow and get a good portion of Castle done, I'll feel pretty darn good about myself.
I will get done with this eventually.... right? Right.
