Oh, and I can I just, in a totally regional note, what a completely ludicrous thing the whole "recall the monorail" issue turned out to be? I mean, the merits or failings of the monorail aside, I would never have voted for the initiative as it stood. It essentially boiled down to, "you can't use city right of ways to build a monorail. EVAR! It's illegal in perpetuity, through your children's children's children. Nyah."

I mean really. I expected it to say something like, "because it hasn't met some expectations, or was an illegal movement, or just "we recall the initiative" and have done. Instead, it wants to outlaw any monorail in the city. Ever.

Um, no. Just no. Even if I don't like the planned one, my kiddos might one day come up with a fine idea for one.

And the people behind the recall initiative it couldn't understand why it got voted down. Duh.

Monorail? You live in a town where that's even on the agenda? Wow. That whole Simpsons episode just flashed through my head like an out of control mono-- oh. Um. Anyway. Neat! :)

You know. People talk smack about the light rail we built here, and where it went. It went from the stadium to the other stadium. But...it passed through the medical center and through downtown. It passes 3 colleges, and our museams and Zoo. And everyone is mad it didn't help them personally. They ended up building it on the ground and it does actually stop at a couple of traffic lights, but people don't realize that is because we couldn't afford to do it otherwise because Tom DeLay put a stop on our federal funding. I ride it once a week to see my downtown customers. It is full of the people who have loved ones in our medical center getting a needed day off at one of our museams or at the new downtown bar and resturant district. It keeps people from trying to drive into downtown to see a baseball or basketball game. And I only pay $4 to see a customer instead of $10 minimum to park down there. People just don't understand that it has to start small. This makes our tourists pay for a lot of it, and I don't understand why people don't like it. The next phase is going to bring in at least one airport, and wants to connect the Galleria area (the US's 4th largest mall complex) into the system. If you get the people who don't live here to easily move around then they spend money...duh!
