*weep*

My lovely iBook, bought just this time last year used on Ebay, is gone. Dead. Deceased. An Ex-iBook. Sigh.

See, my youngest has a habit of rushing headlong through the house. Int his instance, he rushed headlong into the cord to the power adapter, the one that was plugged into my computer at a time, snapping off the end of the plug as it was wrenched out of the iBook and leaving half the center post inside, where you can hear it rattle around if you shake the computer.

Because of this, my power adaptor has to be replaced (no biggie) but it damaged the plug half in the iBook too. This would seem like a small thing, but it isn't. The snapped-off bit can't really be removed easily, a part of the plug in the iBook is apparently bent, and there's no way to replace the plug short of sending it off to Apple, which will cost me a cool $350. Flat fee, you see, though I'm sure there could be more piled on top of it. See, you can't just get replacement parts, they make it to where they have to do it all themselves. And I bought it used, so I have no warranty. *sob*

So, the tech is trying a couple of options, but in the end I'm pretty certain I'm going to be out $150 for looking at it, a laptop that'll work great for the 2 hours and 30 minutes left on the battery then die (as I'll have no way to recharge it) and a sinking feeling, 'cause I have no idea when I'll be able to replace it. I told him not to send it off to Apple, as if I'm going to sink $350/$400 into a computer, I'm going to just go ahead and make it a new one.
