So I did manage to go to San Francisco this past weekend. My hosts were feeling a bit under the weather, so we didn't get out and do as much as we might have otherwise. That's okay, though. As it stands, the highlights of the trip were as follows:
1) Seeing the silent Call of Cthulhu movie and meeting long-storied friends of my friends. Very cool people, and a good time was had by all.
2) Taking the MUNI to Union Square and then walking to and through Chinatown. Special mention to the great little import shop we found with incredibly cool (and affordable) purses and scarves and such. Nice lady who runs it, too.
3) The Stinking Rose. They serve food with their garlic, and what food it is. My friend Nicole had the rabbit, while I had the 1/2 pound Dunganess crab, all with garlic orzo, snap peas, and sundried tomatoes. Oh, and garlic rolls. I very nearly ordered the 40-clove garlic chicken, but instead I'll save that for another visit. They had garlic ice cream, but I was not brave enough to try that. Instead we split the tiramisu -- sigh. Happy happy tiramisu.
4) And the most fun of all, just getting to see friends. I haven't gotten to spend time with them since GenCon last year, and I'd missed them rather a lot. There's a vague chance they may be moving to Seattle this year or next, and while that would curtail my trips to San Francisco, it would be a billion times better just to have them in the area. One of my lifelong goals is to live in the same town as them at least once in my life. :) If that's Seattle, so much the better. If they do move up here, I definitely want them to meet

freeportpirate. Two foodie Nicoles in the same place means that these would be dinner parties to die for. :)
