1) Don't let your toilet run unendingly for a few weeks while thinking, "I'm so busy right now, I'll deal with it later. It's no big deal." When you're presented with a bill of $1200, it will seem a very big deal indeed. Damn plumbing.
2) Last night I fixed vegetarian sloppy joes from a mix, along with organic ready-made baked french fries and salad. Oh, and whole-wheat hamburger buns. It was far better than I had any right to expect. I served the sloppy joe stuff on the french fries for my kids with cheese on top, replicating food I won't normally let them anywhere near. I am the cool mom.
3) I got my hair cut the other night and I am pleased. It's pretty much the same cut as I had before, only a bit longer, but it looks good on me and isn't always hanging in my face again. Yay.
4) It is grey, cool, and rainy. A week ago this would have depressed me, but I find that all of a sudden I don't mind cooking again, I'm excited for my kids about school starting, I have a boy birthday party to plan, and there's fun stuff afoot. I could do a lot worse.
Winter will still suck, mind you, but for now things are good.
5) The end date for my contract is officially Oct 11. I had hoped to take the time for my furlough and remain gainfully unemployed over it, but that now seems less and less likely -- at least so long as I'm interested in eating, keeping a roof over my head, and not being forced to default to public transporation. Should anyone have any suggestions for other employment, I'd be happy to hear them.
