Go to the the following site http://www.popculturemadness.com/Music/Pop-Modern/2006.html and check out the songs from the year in which you turned 18. Bold the songs you like. Underline or strike the songs you don't (or do one or the other, whichever.) Overcome by peer pressure from seeing this on so many LJs. Oh, and yes, I was a total pop baby back in the day. We only had three stations that weren't country that were available where I lived back in the day -- one was easy listening, and the other two were top-40, one with a slight rock edge and one with a slight "dance music" or R&B edge. Both were known to play the occasional country artist from time to time. *shudder* The R&B one also had the most annoying programming at night, where it was all dedications and the occasional song, so that left me with one option. Sigh.

Oddly, I can remember a bunch of those songs but almost nothing from the year after (which is when I turned 18).

I looked at my year and wow do I actively hate most of that music. I was listening to the college station by then and even though I maintain a bit of a soft spot for Prince (I mean, c'mon, I'm from Minnesota!) and a few other pop hits of the day, I can't say I could do more than tolerate even half a dozen of the songs on my list.

Wow.
