So I've got whiplash. Not a terrible case of it, but enough to make my head hurt and my back unhappy. I would have had X-rays done, but the better part of Seattle was without power today, including my chiropractor's office, so that wasn't much of an option. For those that asked, I was driving on I-90 in moderately heavy rain. I was going the speed of traffic, which was about 10 mph under the standard speed limit (50 mph or so), and a small pickup came up from behind doing at least 60, perhaps more. They apparently tried to slow down but with all the water on the road and not great visibility, it apparently didn't work. Bah.

Tonight I get to finish packing, doing laundry, freelance work, and general cleaning up before leaving out tomorrow morning for Oklahoma. I have a new bag of food for Rosie and things set up, so I think everything will turn out well.

As it happens, we had a huge tree fall down the street that cut off power up here for a significant way. I talked to the owners of the property. We had gusts of up to 90 mph, apparently, and that tree was half uprooted. It took out phone, cable, and the water line to their house, not to mention part of their driveway, leaving a gaping and fascinating hole in their yard. They are so, so lucky it didn't fall the other direction onto their house.

Honestly, my biggest problems right now are as follows:

1) My house is still fucking freezing. This should be amended, but it'll take a little while for the electric heaters to compensate for a day of cold.

2) I lost a day and a half of work time, and I'll lose another day tomorrow. I'm am less than pleased about this, as it has the potential to really set me back from my deadlines.

3) I am sore and tired and still have a lot of stuff to do.

Regardless.... In case I don't have much of a chance to post before Christmas, I want to wish everyone a happy Yule, Christmas, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, or whatever it is you choose to celebrate.

Very sorry to hear this! I had it a few years ago, and didn't get relief until I had physical therapy.

The best exercises were 10 reps each side (1) turning my head left and right, then (2) up and down, then (3) tilted towards one shoulder then another. Also, lying on your back over the side of the bed to the point where you're still mostly comfortable feels good.

This was part of the U of W whiplash study advertised in the Seattle Weekly which is probably still going on and does pay $50 for each of 3 parts--in case you're interested.

For releasing the muscle tension, none of the pills worked--only alcohol. I now cannot stand the thought of drinking plum wine.
