Well, suck.

I'm now trying to call various places to look at counciling for David. Most places charge at least $150 for the initial session, if not $250. Likewise, it's anywhere from $75 to $150 a session after that. The two places that aren't like that are Christian Family Counciling Services, who sound utterly unable to help with his particular issues based on everything I've heard of them, and Taliferro Mental Health, a state facility with a sliding payment scale and very little choice involved. I don't see that working out very well with David. It's so hard for him to talk to anyone about anything right now, much less if he feels he has no choice in who he talks to.

I am so damn sick of being without insurance, and there's no way we can afford this, even after my checks come in. He can't keep going without it, though. He just... he's already not coping well. He's not having panic attacks as such, but he's withdrawing more and more. About the only useful coping skill he's found is programming, which is a god send. A new Tri-Stat DX/BESM/SAS character generator is the project of the day. He's lost any sense of how to try and work through stuff himself, and he's refusing to talk to anyone about what he's feeling... not me, not Jen, not anyone.

If only the people who'd offered him the PT designer job hadn't flaked out and changed their minds after he did the work on one of their books, we wouldn't be going through this right now. And now they won't even answer his emails about whether or not they can pay him for the work he did (the "trial" piece for the new job). I'm really annoyed, as at least half the people at this company are old friends from FASA days. I expected more of them than this.

To sum up, suck.

*hug* I wish there were some way to help you and David. :/ Have you looked into how much it would cost to apply for medical insurance? Surely there has to be an option that doesn't require a 9-5 job.

There are, but the cheapest I've found are around $180 a month for the family, have a $5000 deductable, and don't cover pregnancy or therapy. Anything that does costs nearly as much for a self-employed person as does the therapy.

And without a car, there's no way I could get a full-time job doing anything around here, given that I'm 45 minutes away from the closest place to find employment with benefits.

this is not awfully helpful of me, but your comment reminded me SO much of last week's 9 Chickweed Lane thread...

...er, greetings from the land of socialized medicine, anyway. (They don't cover PREGNANCY? WTF is wrong with them?)

Er, they only want to insure non-pregnant people, I guess. *shrug*
