It's pretty much been a day of stress (only partially self-induced) so I will now focus on the good things going on currently.

1) I went to the gym. Go me.

2) My office have been moved to a building in a large chi-chi mall complex. In that mall, in the ersatz food court, there's a Turkish cafe/restaurant. I had the best gyro -- sorry, donar -- sandwich I have ever had today from there. EVAR. Also, I have discovered the joys of hummus and pita bread. I'm evidently late to this party, but DAMN. I can't afford it every day, but this could definitely become a habit.

3) Starting back on Weight Watchers again. Gotta get back on top of the food thing.

Um... oh yeah.

4) Bought Rosie a new stuffed toy. She is very cute with it and quite pleased. I'm a good doggie mommy.

Go you!

So to get around that annoying "can't afford to eat great food out every day" thing? I've been known to bring hummus sandwiches for lunch -- slice a tomato or cucumber in there, and poof, protein AND veggies. Good toasted as well.

Or why not bring pita slices and a bit of hummus in a container as a snack?

I'm giving up refined sugar. I'll try and go a month. Like you, I have to get on top of this food thing.

Hummus is wicked easy (and cheap) to make! The only catch I've found is that you really need a food processor to qualify for the "easy" part of it (but I bought one for 2 bucks at a garage sale, just for the purposes of making hummus!)

I don't even use a recipe. I just drain and rinse one can (small or large, depending on the size of your food processor) of chick peas/garbonzo beans. Dump it into the food processor and add a healthy drizzle of olive oil and (because they are the flavors I prefer) lemon juice and ground cumin. Whirl it and continue to add dashes of olive oil and lemon juice until it reaches the texture and flavor you prefer.

You can also add garlic (powdered or fresh minced), olives, sun dried tomatoes, fresh parsley or cilantro, or any flavor components you prefer during the whirling process.

It's really really easy to do, and I almost never buy or order hummus any more, preferring the "just made" stuff I put together.

Welcome to the party! A life spent searching for the perfect hummus-and-pita plate is a life that is not wasted. Please allow me to introduce you sometime to some of Seattle's very best offerings in that line, including the redoubtable Cedars in the U District.

By all means, just name the date and time. :)

Indeed Cedars is teh roxxor!

It turns out I have a gym underneath my feet on the next floor down, so there is little excuse not to work out. Today I shall go work out at lunchtime.

Go us! :-)

When I lived in Egypt, most restaurants handed out pita and hummus the way Mexican restaurants hand out chips and salsa.

There used to be a place on 12th called Truely Mediterranean that had some of the best hummus I've ever had, but, sadly, it is no more.
