Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] bruceb.

Step 1: Get your playlist together, put it on random, and play.
Step 2: Move the cursor to a random spot in the song from the first 20 songs that play.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song the lines come from.
Step 4: Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly. [[only I'll probably cheat and just italicize them with the correct guess identified therein, like Bruce did]]

So, these are all taken from my writing playlist. I have more than one, but this is my primary one. Some of these will likely be dead easy, but that's okay. :)

1) We'll go dancing in the moonlight
with the starlight in your eyes
you and me, we're gonna dance, dance, dance -- "Love of my Life," Santana w. Dave Matthews

2) The little conversations
on me they're very rough
they leave me all in pieces
you know there's never time enough

3) I dream of fire
these dreams are tied to a horse that will never tire
and in the flames
shadows play in the shape of a man's desire -- "Desert Rose," Sting

4) My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating -- "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," Green Day

5) it's easier not to be great
and measure these things by your eyes
we long to be here by his resolve
alone in the church by and by -- "I Alone," Live

6) My baby's on the level
I try to read her mind
She's on the straight and narrow
I'm guessing all the time

7) Underneath the chilly grey November sky
we can make believe that Kennedy is still alive
They're shooting for the moon and Smilin' Jack is driving by -- "Tomorrow Wendy," Concrete Blonde

8) Just paint your face the shadows smile
Slipping me away from you
It doesn't matter how you hide
Find you if we're wanting to -- "Burn," The Cure

9) You think that we connect
That the chemistry's correct
Your words walk right through my ears
Presuming I like what I hear

10) I saw the water shimmer
I heard the wind howl
I saw my own reflection
I just can't see it now

11) I have never been so insulted in all my life
I could swallow the sea to wash down all this pride
First you run like a fool to be at my side
But now you run like fool but you just run to hide
and I can't abide -- "Sleep to Dream," Fiona Apple

12) What ravages of spirit conjured this temptuous rage
created you a monster broken by the rule of love -- "Do What You Have To Do," Sarah McLachlan

13) And when you speak
angels sing from above
everyday words seem to turn into
love songs

14) Your friends have shown a kink
in the single life
You've had to much to think
now you need a wife -- "Steady As She Goes," The Raconteurs

15) Right or wrong with dirty hands on wires
Singing songs in dischord choirs

16) Show me a smile and don't be unhappy
Can't remember when I last saw you laughing

17) And if I seem to be confused
I didn't mean to be with you
and when you said I scared you
well I guess you scared me too

18) Falling farther from just what we are
Smoke a cigarette and lie some more
These conversations kill -- "Big Empty," Stone Temple Pilots

19) I'd rather be dreaming than talking
There's nothing to hear or to say
With ears covered mouth closed
The world is opposed
and nothing gets in or away

20) I could be cannon food
destroyed a thousand times
reborn as fortune's child
to judge another's crimes -- "A Thousand Years," Sting

12) Sarah MacLaughlin, "You Do What You Have To Do"

20) Sting, "A Thousand Years"

(I might have recognized #3 as well, but someone else did first. I'd also venture that #1 is Van Morrison's "Dancing in the Moonlight", but that's only a guess)

Alas, you are wrong on #1. 2 points to you for your other answers, though.

Well, thank you . I've gone and done it myself (http://oldmangrumpus.livejournal.com/69035.html) now. Looks like fun, though I doubt my results will be as good as yours.

Indeed, someone *ahem* might own the Crow soundtrack. I didn't expect quite so many of them to come up in the shuffle, but such is the way of things. 4 points to you, sir. :)

I used to own that, two, but I think the ex got it when we split up. I DO own the movie, though.

A great one! Brandon Lee even went to my college -- of course he graduated in 1988, and I started in 1990, so I never met him or anything.

Somewhere I have both the score and the soundtrack. I think the score is in a box somewhere, though

#1's Dave Matthews off the Santana album. Love of My Life or something like that.

And 1 point to you, madam.

Number 14 is "Steady As She Goes" by The Raconteurs
Personally, my favorite line in the song.

And a point to you, sir.
