I had no soda of any kind this weekend, despite the fact that I wanted it. In fact, I didn't have it on Friday either. I have a liter of flat 7up in the house that's being poured down the drain today. This is not to say I won't break down and have a soda in the next day or so, but one once a week is well within my acceptable range.

So. 3 days without. I rock.

We'll see how long I can hold out. :)

Just curious -- did you drink only regular soda, or was it diet soda, too?

If diet, what is so bad about it? Just curious, as someone who drinks a lot of it.

I only drank regular soda. I tried switching to diet, but then I discovered that both Splenda and Aspartame trigger my migraines, so that was right out.

Ah, that makes sense. I drink a LOT of diet. I did try to cut down at one point, but have gone back to it.

Awesome! Wish I had the willpower to do that, but I need my caffeine. Keep it up!

I'm trying to switch to tea for my caffeine needs. Regular coffee is too strong for me, but decaf might work. The big problem is that a) I'm still acclimatized to sweet drinks and b) I never learned to like either coffee or tea, or mostly hot drinks in general (growing up in the Southern U.S. will do that to you).

Basically, the mix of HFCS and caffeine send my blood pressure through the roof, while caffeine alone doesn't affect me nearly so strongly, at least not at the level I'm accustomed to. I should quit caffeine altogether, but we're focusing on one thing at a time right now. :) Thankfully I've found chai along with some other types of tea that I don't seem to need sweetened. Go me.

I've switched to coffee for my caffiene needs. At one point, I drank close to 3 liters a day. By myself. And when I quit (almost cold turkey) I was sweaty and got the shakes. It was horrid, let me tell ya. And once I got over the detox, I was fine. But for awhile, oy. It was a nightmare. Even now, if I have anything with caffiene in it past like 3 pm or so, I can't sleep that night. Don't know why. I just can't.
