So I'd been reading about beauty tips a couple of weeks ago, and one of them was to take used teabags, chill them, and put them over your eyes to help fight dark circles. I've ben drinking more tea lately -- in fact, I just had a cup tonight. so after having it, when I was about to toss the teabag, I thought, "Hey! I'll save this and try that tip out!"

Off it goes into the fridge and then a few minutes ago, after I got the kids off to bed, I remembered it again. I pulled it out, put it on one eye (that way I could tell if it helped) and sat back to watch TV. At first it was nice, very cool, but then I noticed the cool was starting to turn into a tingle, and from there into a burn all around my eye... at which point I realized that I wasn't drinking actual tea -- I was drinking herbal tea, the ingredients of which are:

Red Rooibos (red "tea"), chicory root, rosehips, cinnamon, peppermint, lemongrass, papaya, chamomile, panax ginseng leaves, anise seed, ginger root, dandelion root, orange peel, and orange oil.

So, yeah. Strong burning plant oils on the skin all around my eye. I went and washed my face straight away and the worst of it is gone, but I can tell it's still sensitive. Duh. :)

At least the burning smelled good! ;)

*applause* I love "Women of the Goop" stories.

Bet the orange peel and the orange oil helped in the burning department too. heh...ooo, and the lemongrass. Wow. You are basically drinking stinging citrus juice tea.

I tried some lemon juice on my hair to create 'highlights'. It didn't do a darn thing.

Try a little tabasco sauce ... that might help!

Okay, just being an ass. That does suck. Eyes are one of things that it really sucks to do harm to. I just screwed the pooch on that sentence structure!

But, yeah ... was sick this past week, and my eyes were constantly watering. Sucks. Hope yours feel better soon.

Cold teabags are good for red, sore, puffy eyes (from allergies or sinus infections, especially), but...

-they are best if unsteeped (just rinse cold water through them)
-I've never heard of using them for dark circles
-OW OW OW! My face would never forigve me if I did that.

If you've got a couple of bucks spare, may I suggest The Body Shop's Unperfumed Elderflower Eye Gel? It is cooling and lovely and will make you feel much better.

That sounds like a much cleverer plan. :)
