Real Writing. Film at 11.
Sep. 29th, 2005 10:49 pmTonight, for the first time in.... wow. Probably over a year.... I sat down and worked on my writing. Not work for anyone else, not anything under contract, not even anything game-related. *gasp* Work for which I am and may continue to be unpaid. I reviewed a shitload of stuff sitting around my original fiction folder I keep, dusted off some things and consigned others to languish indefinitely. I realized that something I wrote as a total throwaway is actually pretty good and salable, so I found a magazine and sent it off. I also realized that I have three, count them, three fully-fleshed out novel ideas that I really need to write. Two of them I've started on. One of them I had begun gathering source material for but didn't get any further. I also realized that I'm probably actually good enough now to write the arthurian story I started ages and ages ago but could never get anywhere with. It's not exactly tops on my list to work on, though. I would actually want to see it published, and I'm not so versed in the market that I know of tons of venues for it. Add in that the thing is long for a short story and short for a novel, and that puts it firmly in either "novella" or "young adult novel" range, and I'm not sure I like those options. Anyway....
It makes me feel good to read over old material (and not so old material) and realize that I really have improved. It still isn't perfect, but it's so much better than it was that there's no denying it. I may actually be an author some day. Who'da thunk it? *grin*
