Strike, baby.
Jun. 4th, 2006 03:39 pmYeah, so today we did the thing my kids have been begging for for weeks. The outing they've dreamed of since we last did it. That's right, ladies and gents... bowling.
Bowling.
I have no idea how this became one of their favorite family outings, but there it is. We went to Acme Bowl in Tukwila, which is new and clean and has pretty good non-greasy-spoon-food and will deliver food and drinks to your lane.We had lunch there -- the boys had mac and cheese, and I had BBQ chicken pizza with red onions and cilantro. We got there at about noon and bowled 3 games. It's a big change from about a decade ago, the last time I bowled anything that could remotely be called "regularly." Now we can arrange to have the computer put bumpers up for the kids and not for me all in the same game on the same lane. Technology rocks, baby. Although it does contribute to me having a lower score not to cheat and have the bumpers, but I'm a big girl. I can take crushing defeat at the hands of an 8 year old. At least I can out bowl my youngest... for now.... My best score: 120. My game pretty much comes and goes depending on how long it's been since I've seen my chiropractor and how often I've been hitting the gym, but that wasn't too bad.
My oldest seems to hit spares with frightning regularity, even with bumpers up. The waitress there mentioned youth leagues starting this month, grouped by age. They happen on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I'm considering it. I think they'd have a great time and it's not too expensive. I could probably even practice my billiards while they played sometimes. :)
Also, wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles, my kids started cleaning their room yesterday--without me telling them to! They made real progress! There's still some to be done, but the amount accomplished left me in awe. This is the first time they've cleaned without being told, on purpose. Granted, it was mostly William, with Alisdair eventually pitching in, but still. I bought them a new Gamecube game on the way home to reward them for it, along with tons of praise. I have good kids. :)
