Birthday!

So today is my birthday, and although my official party isn't for a couple more weeks, I did do a little bit of celebrating this weekend.

Satruday, I took my younger son to his Sibshop thing (a sort of day camp/workshop for kids who are the siblings of special needs kids) and my older son to the Burke Museum of Natural History, which was fun. It's a nice setup there, and although the place is sorta small, it just filled the three hours we had to spend there, including time for a snack, and still let us feel like we'd seen everything we wanted to see. Also, parking was free (yay!). Saturday evening I treated myself to dinner out at my favorite pub-type place, wherein my current/now former dating guy and I came to an amicable resolution on this whole effort. So yay for that.

Sunday, I got up in the morning and went bowling with my ex and the kids -- my "family" birthday party. We bowled three games total, though honestly I was pretty much ready to be done by the end of the second. The ball I was using was a little too heavy for me at the moment, but I couldn't find anything lighter that I could get my fingers into. As it is, my thumb's still swollen and my back isn't altogether happy with me. The first game was awesome, though, as I bowled a 170 -- a personal best by, like, a LOT. It was almost like I knew what I was doing. What the hell. :)

After bowling and breakfast, I decamped and ran off to knitting with [livejournal.com profile] mudcactus and [livejournal.com profile] polyhex and Tarisse. We hung out and chatted and had light lunches and were just generally having a good time. Then I realized I wanted to go yarn shopping, and JoAnn's was simply not going to do, so Misty agreed to drive us all over to this yarn store that she and Lynn had visited the day before. Lynn'd already given me an awesome present -- two balls of red-purple mohair fuzzy yarn and a felted bag pattern that looks awesome, but I didn't have enough of the fuzzy yarn to make the bag and I wanted something to make it with -- and I haven't bought yarn in MONTHS. I've been very good all during my unemployment, but my will was weak. So we all trundled off across the bridge to Acorn Yarns, wherein I bought some stuff to make the bag that should be totally awesome -- blues and greens and deep jewel purples. I'm all excited about it.

After that, I went home, picked up a small black forest cake and some vanilla gelato at Boracchini's Bakery, managed to get my held books before the library closed, and hung out with my kids Sunday night, wherein we had cake and ice cream and such like. I even got an assignment done and another essay read. Need to get back to the editing before all my school papers are due... that has the potential to be hairy, but it should still work out okay. So Steve, if you read this, we should still be on track. :) I'll answer your email when I get a bit, though.

Today my coworkers are taking me out to lunch, which is very cool of them. Overall, it's a pretty good birthday. :)
