South Beach, day 1
Aug. 31st, 2008 03:19 pmPrewritten menus? Hah! I laugh at your prewritten menus.
Breakfast:Canadian bacon scramble (1/3 cup onion, 1/3 cup green pepper, 1/3 mushrooms, olive oil, 2 eggs, 2 pieces of diced Canadian bacon, sprinkle salt & black pepper), water, cinnamon tea (no sugar)
Morning Snack: Lactose-free mozzerella string cheese
Lunch: Crab salad (1 pkg fake crab (surimi), 3 tbsp mayo, 2 tsp stone ground mustard, 2 cups torn lettuce, one tomato sliced. Oh, and water with a squeeze of lemon juice. Moroccan Mint green tea
EDIT: Crap. I was amazed how much better I felt after eating lunch, only to take a closer look at the ingredients on the crab package to discover that sugar and sorbitol are both in the ingredients. Bah.
Afternoon Snack: Celery sticks and 2 tbsp of hummus
Supper: Roasted asparagus with lemon. Lemony sole fillets (sole fillets, lemon juice, pepper, tomato slices, onion, and basil). Water. A slice of turkey rolled up with a slice of swiss cheese
Dessert: Plain yogurt with vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a bit of agave nectar.
Things I Have Learned:
1) No sugars or starches during the day makes Michelle a cranky girl. Oddly, any sense of actual appetite is gone. I don't notice I'm hungry until I'm suddenly feeling unwell, and eventually I twig that this is hunger.
2) I don't like eggs. I can eat eggs, but I don't really like them too terribly much. They leave me feeling vaguely woogy, especially without carbs to cushion them in my stomach. The idea that there are mostly egg breakfasts in this would give me pause if I didn't know I could move things around.
3) I hate celery. I tried it, thinking it had been long enough that perhaps my tastes had changed, but no. It is a demon plant, unfit to share earth with other useful and tasty flora. It is somewhat tolerable when cooked, but only if accompanied by other things. I only got down a half a stalk before I had to give it up, resorting to just using it as a spoon for the hummus.
4) I don't like sole. I tried, man. I made a decent recipe, I had it with roasted asparagus... but no. No like there for me. It's a shame, as I've got at least two more helpings of that dish in there, but there's nothing to be done for it. At least Rosie likes it. Expensive dog food, though.
5) The dessert thing works pretty darn well. Agave nectar works for taste, and yet I can tell it doesn't feed whatever thing it is I'm trying to detox from. I'm going to start really going through my spice cabinet, though.
Day 1, down. 13 more to go before I can have bread/rice/potatoes/sugar again.
