Headaches

Gah. I hate headaches. And I'm having one again, and I can't tell whether it's due to not having been back to the chiropractor recently or some environmental challenge or what. I want desperately to eat greasy food and have a coke in my body's mistaken belief that somehow this will make everything better, but neither are here and money does not magically appear until tomorrow, as the money fairies took a day off to get sloshed on Memorial Day and are now behind in their work.

I need to be working on school stuff, but I haven't started because my head fucking hurts and my wrist is unhappy with me. This is also my reason for not really working on work stuff.

I think I'll go check the mail and see if there's anything good in it. Good things would be nice. Then I'll try to finish Heart of Darkness and start on some essays for school.

Will had a ball game today. I didn't get to be there as I had to take Al to his social skills group, but I heard about it when I dropped Al off afterwards. Apparently today Will got to be catcher. He's been wanting to be catcher the entire season, but hadn't gotten to before now. Admittedly, he got his chance primarily because he wore his athletic cup and the regular catcher didn't. This is an important point.

See, Will and I have been quietly having the War of the Cup for some weeks now, in which he complains that he doesn't want to wear it because it's uncomfortable and no one else does, and I allow as these things are and may be true, but that he'll wear it anyway. This argument has been a hard sell because Will has the attention span of a small distractable boy when out on the field and thus rarely gets to play. He's also my texturally challenged child, and things that are uncomfortable aren't just uncomfortable for him, they can reduce him to tears. I've managed to win the battles thus far, however, and his dad backs me on this, so today at the game he wore the cup and got to play.

This was a wonderful thing, as he played the whole game. As it turns out, your attention wanders less when someone's throwning a ball at you constantly. Who knew? :) It's also a wonderful thing because the pitcher nutted him halfway through the game with a bad bounce. Luckily, he was appropriately armored and thus had no lasting trauma.

He definitely understands the point of the protective cup now, however. I predict no further conflicts on this matter. :)*

*Oh, and he hit the ball for the first time this season too! Of course he hit it to First AND it was at the end of the game, so his legs were totally fried and he couldn't run, but that's all right. My boy hit the ball. :) Cheering may now commence.
