So. Summer plans are afoot.
Feb. 20th, 2011 11:17 pmThe tax return has come in, and thus the plans, they are being made/purchased. Following the necessary purchasing of tickets for the boys to come visit this summer (eee!) and the according reapportioning of the remaining refund between myself and my ex, the remainder has set up the following plans:
1) I'm going to Bonnaroo this summer with Matt and Sarah. I'll be camping for four days (ick) but also listening to amazing live music (yay!) and spending time with people I'm extremely fond of (yay!) and having new adventures (yay!). Overall, I can overcome my camping resistance, especially when one considers that Matt will want to cook and painkillers and air mattresses and sunblock do exist.
Bands I am particularly looking forward to hearing/seeing:
Eminem
Arcade Fire
Gogol Bordello
The Black Keys
Mumford & Sons
Iron & Wine
Explosions in the Sky
The Decemberists
Scissor Sisters
Alison Krauss
Old Crow Medicine Show
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
Devotchka
There are others. These are just the ones I know I like.
2) Origins. Going to Origins again this year. This is the no-kid con, which should be a blast. Very much looking forward to it.
3) GenCon. Going to GenCon. This will be my sons' first GenCon, which should be a blast. Very much looking forward to it.
Of course, as I say that, it's with the knowledge that I may, in fact, not go to GenCon. There is an outside chance I may end up in Germany presenting a paper. I think I could live with that, all things considered. But for now, the plan is GenCon.
Setting all this up in one day did provide a certain level of sticker shock. That said... it was a good thing to get done, and I'm glad I could afford to do it. I don't have a huge amount of discretionary funding left, but there was enough to buy some songs in Rock Band (well, more than that, but we're talking about discretionary funds here).
Anyway. Happy I get to have what looks as though it'll be a fantastic summer with my kids and friends. It makes me really happy, at least as the money panic fades. :)
