Peeking around the corner....
Feb. 17th, 2011 03:41 pmSuddenly I'm slammed again, and I'll my good planning to write in my journal is for naught. I finished a paper today and I have a small breathing space before I'm back in it once more, so I thought I'd update.
First, my grandfather turned 100! Can you believe it? Crazy. He doesn't seem all that likely to keel over any time soon, either. Those Czech farmers, man, they're made of iron. He still lives at home with my aunt, is determined to mow his lawn in the summer, and is generally still pretty spry. I should do so well when I'm 75, frankly.
I just wrote a paper aout ecopoetics. I'm not thrilled with ecopoetics, frankly, and ended up taking a contrary position almost just because. I feel sort of bad about this, but we can't all like everything.
I may be hitting my first administrative snag in grad school, as the prof I'd picked out for my grad advisor is taking a leave of absence next spring -- which is, of course, roughly when I'd be taking the MA exam, if I have this straight? He's also the one guy in the department really steeped in the field I want, which also means that he's really ideal, and changing may mean being left a bit on my own if I keep the same focus. I'm not particularly thrilled with this turn of events, but better to get it sorted now, before I've finished my first year, than later.
I've got a line on a tutoring job which could pay actual money, which is sorely needed for this summer. Go go gadget grad student!
I still need to work on my syllabus and my coursework for my 180 next week -- I owe him feedback on an essay, and I really need to dig in and make this a priority for me. I feel like I'm slacking, and I don't mean to. Time to buckle down.
A lady came up to me in the drugstore yesterday and said, "You're awesome because your hair is purple." Why yes, yes I am, and thank you. :)
