Worthy of note
Mar. 6th, 2011 10:35 amLong time readers of my journal will remember that I struggle mightily with my addiction to soda. During times when I'm not careful, I'll end up having a couple of 16 oz bottles of it a day. Even when I'm watching it, I'll often still end up with one or so. When I'm low on energy or attention or whatever I'll self-medicate with it -- between the habit of always drinking it ever since I was a kid and the degree the caffeine/sugar combo regulates my focus issues (better than coffee alone does, damn it), I find it tremendously hard not to have it. Like, serious craving/addiction level wanting it when that sort of thing hits.
As of today, I'm 4 days sober, as it were. And while that doesn't seem that impressive, you have to take my word for it that it is. I've determined that I get one a week during gaming. That's scheduled for the next game I run, which is Monday night. If I can maintain this pattern long enough to build a habit, then I'm golden -- I won't have to give up soda entirely, but I won't be ruining my health with it anymore either. In the meantime, between club soda and water and coffee I'm managing to keep it at bay, to the extent that I managed to withstand it as the easy option when I went to Quiznos for a salad yesterday. Keep a good thought for me. :)
