eurydicebound: (coffee)
So yesterday morning we got on a plane for Seattle. We discovered on the way to the airport that our plane had been delayed over an hour, which wasn't really welcome news at 8:30 in the morning, but whatever. We played Bottle Imp while we waited for the plane, a card game I'd gotten for Christmas from Matt. It was fun, but I still don't have the hang of it. It'd be sort of a regular trumps game, but there are a lot of special conditions that affect what the trump actually is and who wins. I suck at this, apparently. :) That's okay, though. It was fun. We'll be teaching the boys to play it tonight.

The flight between Cleveland and Chicago was full of wind and unpleasantness. Add that to a regional jet and you have a recipe for unhappiness. It was a really long 45 minutes. We had a bit of time in O'Hare to get some food and recover, though, which was good. The flight from Chicago to Seattle was far more pleasant. We got in at about 4:00 local time, which wasn't bad. From there we got over to a shuttle to Dollar Rent-a-car, where we got a 2010 Subaru Outback. It's kinda spiffy, although the sunroof freaks me out a bit. It's another place to see movement in my peripheral vision when I turn to look at Matt, so I keep that to a minimum. The deal we had through AAA let us pick the type of car we wanted, though, so we chose that. It has room for us, the boys, and stuff, so it works well. It doesn't have a huge amount of power, but it tolerates the hills around here pretty well.

From there we went to get the boys and have dinner. We drove over to Ballard to go to Zesto's, because burgers and shakes and fresh fish and chips sounded good to everyone, and when I took Matt there before he was sick and couldn't taste anything. Dinner was good -- the fish was really good, as always. After dinner we dropped the kids off back at David's and went to our apartment -- yes, apartment. We got a short-term rental place on Capital Hill for $100 a night, basically, with a full kitchen, wi-fi, etc. Really great location and the quality of the place is great. I couldn't be more pleased--it's the Maple, on 12th Street. I'll likely stay here again when I come back, especially if it's not just me. One note, though -- you can reserve parking in back, but the driveway alongside the building is super narrow -- I don't think I could reliably get up and down it in the vehicle we have. If we'd have known, we might have chosen a smaller car.

Last night was something of a blur once we got in. Matt came in and pretty much fell over, and doesn't remember much past realizing the place had a bed. Sarah followed along not long thereafter, while I took a hot bath and relaxed and took my time.

Today has thus far been lovely, but I'll save that story for the next post because today isn't done yet!
