So, after gadding about like a social butterfly for the past two weekends, I spent last weekend at home, cleaning. Well, not just cleaning. Thoroughly horrified by the sheer amount of clutter in my home, I set forth on a two-fold initiative.

  1. I sorted through everything in the living room, filing important papers and filling the recycling bin with nearly everything else -- except for what got put away or put in the Goodwill pile.
  2. I got my ass down to IKEA for their bi-yearly sale and picked up two bookcases and a new computer desk.

It was on Thursday that I realized I'd had so many books piled on the floor that I would have to excavate to get to the east wall of my living room. I'd had enough.

All things considered, I did a pretty good job. My living room was relatively clean by the end of Saturday, I had new furniture being delivered, and I'd gotten six months of paperwork filed. Go me.

Of course, then on Sunday the flat-pack furniture arrived. I got one bookcase put together along with the computer desk. I also then, of course, had to take down all the books on the existing bookcase and CD tower, and then move them all about to make room for the new shelves (which I'd thought were the same size as what I had but are, in fact, at least half-again as big -- oops), and then reload them all again once they were together.

The remaining bookcase is for my room to act as my dresser, and I haven't even touched that room yet -- which means I've got a big-ass box laying across the length of my living room. I also had to clean out my car from stem to stern as I took it to the dealship this morning to get my bumper fixed, which means that everything I took out of my car is now in my living room.... which means my living room looks roughly as bad as it did when all this started, only now with more furniture and a big freaking box in it. Gaaaaah.

Today I've been home with my boys, as they both went to a birthday party this weekend and came home with developing colds. Alisdair has a fever and a cough, so that's not fun. Not only did I not get to go to work, though, I also got no progress done on the house, which given how much time I spent working on it this weekend, bugs me to no end. Feh.

It wasn't all work this weekend, though. I went to the U-District and picked up some Ars Magica 5th books at The Dreaming on Saturday, and then I met up with Misty that afternoon and we wandered around the sidewalk sales at University Village and chatted and just generally got caught up. I hadn't seen Misty very much at all since my job at MGS ended, and it was really good to spend some time with her. We even got silly and played in one of the copious fountains there like the sun-deprived Seattlites we are, despite the 60-degree temperatures, as well as me teaching her a little bit of basic salsa and belly dance moves, much to the amusement of passers-by.

...

And now, The Princess Bride is on -- and my kids have no memory of seeing before. Tonight will be good, and maybe I'll overcome the cranky state of mind that's beset me today.

It's a pity you're up there and we're down here. I love Ars Magica, and our group needs a player.
