Crap.

Hotels are sold out left, right and center for Origins. ALREADY. And I was planning to attend with family this year, so I can't just ride someone else's coattails. It's UNREAL. It's six months early, and it's sold out. I hope the companies I work with have already made their reservations, or it's gonna be a little scary this year.

The sucky thing is that I know how these things work. Between my bum ankle, needing to shmooze, and needing to work with my kid's schedules and tolerance for crowds and what not, I have no interest in staying in a room more than a couple of blocks from the convention center -- not with two small kids in tow. It would mean we might as well not attend at all.

To verify that this was not some great fluke, I called GAMA and spoke to Anthony Galella. He was super nice and offered to call the listed hotels and see what was still available, as he had a hotel check coming up and wouldn't mind doing it a little early. He's going to call me back. Now I will feel like an ungrateful wench if I don't go, but I can't stay somewhere that won't accomodate my family, either.

Damn it. I want to go to Origins this year.

Holy crap! Origins must have become really popular. That's the only explanation I can think of, because this is ridiculous. No way should the hotels already be sold out -- this time last year, the year before, etc., there was still room to be gotten either at the Hilton or at least a hotel right across the street.

I was just going to start looking into this stuff, myself. I'm not sure I'll be able to go, but I sure want to. If the hotel situation is as bad as that, now I'm even less sure I'll be able to go. :(

I'm not sure whether Origins is suddenly popular or if it's due to the dreadful problems with last year's Gen-Con.

We lucked out managed to book the last room at the Hampton Inn (across the street from the Con) last night.

That's crazy. (I don't doubt it's true, but it's crazy. I'm still stuck on the "sold out" part. Jesus.)

Wouldn't it be a kick if they grew out of Columbus? That would be.... really bizarre. Kinda cool in a way, but bizarre.

Heck, last year I wasn't getting rooms until March/April, and they still had vacancies. This is insane.

Absolutely, on all fronts. I got a room at the Red Roof Inn around March, which is effectively across the street from the convention center. (Not quite as close as the Crowne Plaza, but it wasn't a burdensome walk by any means.)
