I've been staring at it for days now. Of the 8 offered topics, I hate all of them. One of them might have worked, but I never could pin it down sufficiently to make a go of it. Now my teacher has had to leave and we've got a replacement for the rest of the quarter, I can't discuss paper topics with anyone, and the thing on my mind to write about a) wasn't on my mind while my professor still had the class, and b) can't be shoehorned into any of the existing assigned topics!

I know, I know, you don't have to love something to write it. God knows I've lived through that enough times to know the truth of it. But my brain keeps skittering up to the idea of the paper, peering at it distantly, and then deciding it's uninteresting and haring off to do something else altogether. This has to stop. I've got to find a way to just get it done, one way or the other. Gaaaah.

Approach it like you would an assignment for work, where you would definitely have more of a chance of being required to write something for a product or idea you don't like. I know you're conscientious about getting your work done, so... :)

I got a rough outline done last night, and that helped settle it in my brain. Now I just have to find time to write it before Thursday. :)

I know how that goes. I know what I need to write for my Joyce paper, and I pretty much have the time to do it, but I'm dragging my feet because I don't really want to do it. (I didn't find many of the stories we read, or the authors, terribly energizing so I picked one I hadn't read anything about really.) But I do need to do it soon because that paper is due right before the Thanksgiving holiday, and we'll probably have to bring a rough draft in to class for "peer critiquing." (Which in my case is utterly ridiculous because in my English class, my only real peer so far as ability is the professor. Ugh.)

I felt your pain through both of my community college English classes. Just think of it as an exercise in the basics. :)

The bitch of everything, for me, is starting.

I've learned I have to take an "easy" part of it --the conclusion? the bibliography? something -- and just start writing. The longer I don't start, the longer my brain turns it into OH GOD HUGE ASSIGNMENT TIME CLOSING IN!
