No, not job related. But that's okay. No, this is totally personal. So a couple of years ago, when I was taking dance lessons three times a week and losing weight, I'd gone shopping for jeans due to a sudden wardrobe setback. I bought two pairs: the pair I tried on and another pair that I thought was exactly the same. The second pair was not, in fact, exactly the same. While they were the same size, the second pair had no stretch in the fabric and was a different cut. In short, I couldn't wear them. Even fitting nicely into the first pair, ostensibly the same size, I couldn't even button these.

I considered returning the pants, but did not. After all, I was losing weight. It would only be a matter of time before the other pants fit, right? Well, after stopping dance lessons, gaining weight and going up another size entirely, and then finally getting all of that straightened out... today I tried them on... and they fit! They're still a touch on the tight side for work, but they fit without using a shoehorn, sewing machine or other assistive device! It'll probably be another few pounds before I put them into regular rotation, but I'm expecting at this rate that I'll be wearing them by my birthday without a problem -- which is good, because I need new jeans like whoa.

Also, does anyone out there have any ideas where one can get white knee socks? They seem to be unexpectedly in short supply, but I need a pair for a certain outfit I'm working on.

Try a sporting goods store like Oshman's or Academy for the white knee socks. (Congrats on the pants!)

Fred Meyer, Target, Costco. All carry the lovely cheap ass knee socks.
As someone who is working really hard on going the other direction I expect I could say congrats but it might sound smarmy :)

The image of putting on pants with a shoehorn is really amusing. :)
