eurydicebound: (Me!)

This is my finished clapotis, which is a scarf/shawl sort of thing that I finally finished. I could block it, but then it wouldn't do that awesome sort curling cut-on-the-bias thing it does.

I finished something. Go me. :)

What a lovely gift for me. Thank you. You may deliver it at T&K's wedding. :P

Thank you. The yarn is this awesome crimson with a sort of rougher brown/black twined with it, which gives it a tweed sort of appearance.

I would love to learn to knit. :D That's purty.

Knitting is really not as hard as I thought it would be. There are a number of things I don't know how to knit yet, but the basic principles are enough to let me do something like I did there.

How cheaply can you buy basic knitting supplies?

And I wonder if Knitting and Crotcheting for Dummies really helps you learn to knit? I've seen that book at our library and I've been itching to check it out. We now have a Hobby Lobby (YAY!) so I could really easily go pick up simple, basic supplies if I wanted to learn how to do it alone.

omg I LOVE that. What is blocking, and can we see pics of the curling thing?

Blocking is where you take a knitted/crocheted item you've just made, hand wash it, and then put it in the shape you want and let it dry that way. It's what makes things fit and lay the way they should.

This is how it actually looks when not on. As you can see, the ribs are diagonal across the piece, not lengthwise.

This is one way to wear it. The yarn is a silk-merino blend, and it tends to fall nicely anyway. The design of the piece is such, though, that it curls around on itself if not given anything better to do (or if kept from it by blocking, which will flatten it). If you spread it out as in the picture up above, it acts more as a shawl, but one that will hug the body and drape, ends curling around a bit, if you let it. If you want different pics I can try to come up with some more.
