Friday was my son's 5th birthday. It seems impossible that he's not a baby any more, but he's most decidedly not. He's on the verge of reading, he's a skater boy deluxe, he wants to take dance classes and karate classes and he tries really hard to follow the rules and be a good boy at school. He's sweet and sensitive, even if he can't bring himself to admit he likes girls yet. I, happily, am an exception -- which is just as well, as I'm not ready to share my William's affections with any other women yet.
The birthday party took place at our family reunion this past weekend. We're going out to eat this weekend to a Mexican restaurant, so that Will can wear a sombrero and have people sing to him for his birthday since we didn't get to do that last weekend. (At 5, this is apparently a Very Big Deal.) We had planned to visit the zoo, but Alisdair fell ill and the weather didn't cooperate, so we went to see Scooby Doo 2 instead (not bad, surprisingly. My husband tells me it's far better than the first one, which I haven't yet seen). We're going to try to hit the zoo in a few weeks and make up for our missed opportunity.
